Always wrapped in an imposing sobriety, Don Amleto (as he will be referred to, to avoid confusion with Fulgencio Batista) runs the casinos and other businesses on behalf of Lansky from his perch atop the elegant Hotel Sevilla Biltmore. Astute, observant and articulate, he understands Lansky’s plans without being Lansky’s man. Anastasia’s arrival gives him the opportunity to get out from under Lansky’s shadow.
